WOOD DESTROYING PEST DIVISION

Our team offers treatment for woodborer & other wood destroying insects.

(incl. structural tentings & furniture treatments)

DIFFERENT WOODBORER SPECIES
SUBTERRANEAN TERMITES

SUBTERRANEAN TERMITES

Termites play a role as decomposers of wood and vegetative material. In addition to causing damage to buildings, termites can also cause damage to food crops & trees/plants who's resistance to damage is low, such as dead trees/tree stumps. Termites can be identified through their sand mounds or presence of "clumped" sand, as shown in this image.

DRYWOOD TERMITE

DRYWOOD TERMITE

Also known as Cryptotermes brevis. Drywood termites are social woodborer, meaning the young are dependent on the adults for survival. Drywood Termites make their home inside structural timbers or items made of wood, such as furniture, without the need for any outside source of water/moisture. Drywood Termites can be identified through their "poppy seed" like droppings, known as frass.

FURNITURE BEETLE

FURNITURE BEETLE

Also known as the Common Furniture Beetle. In their larval stage, they bore in wood and feed on it. Unlike Drywood Termites, Furniture Beetles are non-social, allowing them to grow from eggs. To get rid of this woodborer, both the adults and eggs need to be killed. The Furniture Beetle can be identified through the size of their holes and the powder dust like residue, as shown in the image.

POWDER POST BEETLE

POWDER POST BEETLE

Powder Post Beetles are considered pests and attack deciduous trees, over time reducing the wood to a powdery dust. This wood boring beetle survives in colder climates. Items that can be infested by Powder Post Beetles include wooden tools or tool handles, frames, furniture, books, toys, bamboo, flooring, and structural timbers.

DEATH WATCH BEETLE

DEATH WATCH BEETLE

Commonly found in Europe, the Death Watch Beetle is a wood boring beetle that infests the structural timbers of old buildings. They also affect timbers that have been damp and affected by fungal decay or are soft enough for the larvae to chew through. Overtime the Death Watch Beetle causes the affected wood to crumble.
